You may have enjoyed the wares of one of this year's YBF Street Food nominees Decatur at Kerb and Druid Street, but now the business is moving indoors to look after the kitchen at Pamela - the new Haggerston bar opened by the folk behind Rita's.

Tom Browne is the chap behind the venture - a former travel agent who spent years working in the States and never lost his love for it, Decatur is Tom's take on hard to find Southern US specialties, like chargrilled oysters, gumbos and boudin. And you can expect Pamela to be serving up much of the same, focusing on dishes from mainly Lousiana and Mississippi.

On the sample menu we've seen there are snacks like devilled egg [one of Hot Dinners' trigger, must order dish if we spot it on a menu], boiled peanuts and Cajun spiced pork rinds. There are a range of small dishes including

  • chargrilled oysters with garlic-pecorino butter, crystal hot sauce and cajun spices
  • shaved catfish - hominy-grit coated with spiced tartare
  • boudin balls with bread & butter pickles and mustard mayo
  • charred okra with whipped ricotta and red pepper jelly.

There's also two sandwiches on the menu - an oyster loaf and a catfish sandwich and all manner of good and strong cocktails featuring concoctions like banana-infused Jameson and jalapeno-infused Eristoff.

Decatur are now at Pamela, 428 Kingsland Road, London E8 4AA. Tel 020 7686 3212. They are running a soft launch offer of 50% off food today (Thursday). Opening hours are Wed/Thurs 6pm – Midnight, Fri/Sat 6pm – 2am and Sunday 6pm – Midnight
