"My date Angie's carpaccio of veal looked like salmon and was of such unearthly tenderness, you didn't need a knife to cut it. The accompanying rocket was crispy, the capers were tart and the three swung along together as though performing "All the Single Ladies" with the hand actions." READ REVIEW

"The food is not bad, but – like the décor – we couldn’t help wondering if it is 'right’. The bread, a selection, was OK, if not at all remarkable, but the overwhelming impression of a bowl of Provençal vegetable soup was that it was rather a lady’s portion." READ REVIEW

"Seemingly served on a plate styled on a lid, veal on the bone was more successful: perfectly pink in the most intimate places with a gutsy Provençal topping of olives, chives, garlic, tomatoes and peppers. However its pleasure was momentarily blipped by a chickpea chip – a first and last for me." READ REVIEW

Faultless

Three of us dined at Cigalon recently and found little cause to find fault. I had pork belly, nicely cooked (although the crackling was more French than English, ie, a bit softer than les Anglais like it), one of our party had swordfish - superbly cooked and presented - the third had plaice, also thought to be beautiful. Dessert of creme brulee (can you believe it in 2011!) was actually lovely!
Service was impeccable. Decor lovely.

I can't help thinking that this should have higher ratings; we are fussy and demanding, but couldn't really find anything to grumble about. Okay, here's one thing to grouse about: they have those hideous old-fashioned and hopeless electric hand driers that just pointlessly blow ineffectual gusts of air across your hands. Hopeless machines.
