Charlie's Dead

Food and cocktails in the city

The clue to Charlie's Dead is in this eaterie's description - Cocktail Bar and Restaurant. Their website devotes more space and detailed description to their wine and cocktail lists than the menu, which should tell you where the emphasis lies. Maybe it's better to stick to liquid refreshment here.

"The results are a little slapdash. My quail tempura with curried mayo starter – like a posh baby KFC – came rare, as did my main of salmon with a tinny-tasting tomato fondant and hollandaise. This won’t do: raw fish is fine, but pink poultry is unforgivable." READ REVIEW

"We were drawn here by a review elsewhere that was something approaching a ‘rave’, and we do hope we were ‘unlucky’, but, on our experience, it’s really only to the local business crowd that we can commend this as a destination of any interest." READ REVIEW

"It is quite masculine, however the food is of a high quality throughout. If you want a good City feed, you could do a lot worse." READ REVIEW

"Clearly, the chef is better than his environment (and his ability to spell). The venture is backed by, among others, Rupert Pughe-Morgan, brother of Piers. Seems dubious taste runs in the family." READ REVIEW
