"Nothing was bad, and a few things were better than average. Yet it is never a good sign when the puddings are far and away the best dishes." READ REVIEW

"Altogether, this was a disappointing lunch. If all parts had been made even competently, it would have been lovely. As it is, it tastes like the last bun to hop on a long and very overcrowded bandwagon without knowing where they’re going to end up." READ REVIEW

"This is a "pie and a pint" and "bloody Mary and a burger" place for people who don't want to stand up, get jostled or have the Premiership blaring at them. People like, well, me who have lately suffered from gastropub-enter-itis. It should go a long way towards restoring our overseas visitors' faith in pubs, too." READ REVIEW

"Factor in cheap, flimsy cutlery and nothing-special service, and Ape & Bird appears to be just another hit-and-miss food pub, but with bigger price tags. There are, however, a handful of craft beers, and well-chosen wines. So take my advice, and go for drinks, giving the cooking a swerve." READ REVIEW

"Leeks turn up unexpectedly in a decent dish of cauliflower cheese, while another side of charred beats smothered in an excellent kale and walnut pesto feels fantastically fresh and healthy. But the ambitious pricing of both... needs adjusting." READ REVIEW

"The Ape & Bird comes self-styled as “a pub for people who don’t much like pubs” and I endorse that... In a part of London you might before have hurried away from, it is a refuge." READ REVIEW
