Upmarket surf and turf in Farringdon...
Following hard on the heels of the opening of Giant Robot, Jonathan Downey has nipped round the corner in Clerkenwell to open a New York-style steakhouse. This 100 cover restaurant also makes a song and dance about its cocktails.

"It was the steaks that were the real problem. If you are going to run a steak house, serve proper bloody steaks cut to proper sizes." READ REVIEW
"I really wanted to like Redhook but there’s a balance between making customers feel like part of the crew and casting them out on such a long line that they feel lost and forgotten, bobbing around in a sea of other thirsty and hungry people." READ REVIEW
"(The owner) Downey generally gets these things right, and this is 80 per cent of the way to excellent." READ REVIEW

"On balance, Redhook is a good thing – the staff are lovely and the cocktails are great. Throw in some kick-arse chips and perhaps the less expensive ribeye (£13) and I see no reason why you shouldn’t have a good time." READ REVIEW
"But, again, my plateful was only good in parts, let down both by the langoustines, which were dry and dull and had been splashed with the same nondescript salsa as the lobster, and by a viciously salty béarnaise." READ REVIEW

"Some early reports (during the first weeks after opening) suggested the food needed a bit of work. After our visit, though, we're pleased to say that things seem to be running a lot more smoothly." READ REVIEW

Made a booking to a man earlier in the day with not very good english, arrived and booking was lost. Slow service followed by the fact that the drinks we had at the bar were not charged to the bill, 2nd time thats happened.
waiter was knowledgeable, but alone. No toilet paper in the loo, and stairs were wet on the way down. have been here before for drinks, and had mixed reports from colleagues, thought i would try it out.
Bad idea. starter was tasteless, lobster was cold, everything was over priced and the sides were loaded with salt. didnt stay for desserts as thought i had blown enough hard-earned cash. dont do it, there are better places out there with steaks and fish. cheaper too.
