"It’s not the refined dining experience the prices and menu flourishes suggest, but it’s certainly not bad, and the place has an easy charm helped by the attentive, friendly service." READ REVIEW

"There is obviously some real talent in the kitchen and investment in quality ingredients, both of which are welcome in a neighbourhood more used to eateries feeding stoned clubbers than serious diners. But, on the basis of these dishes, there is still work to be done to justify what ended up being a pretty hefty lunchtime bill." READ REVIEW

Hot Dinners was invited to take in a lunch at the Princess of Shoreditch which we did today. Our first impressions were good - both the downstairs more informal room and upstairs restaurant were elegant places to eat in. We were eating in the restaurant, which would be a good place to take a client for lunch - it's bright without being too noisy and the wine list is well chosen with more than a few fine wines at decent prices. As for the food - downstairs offers more steak and chips fare while the upstairs menu had more intricate dishes on offer. We tried the rabbit terrine and butternut squash pannacotta for starters - both looked lovely but could have done with more seasoning. Main courses were better - the duck breast and confit was a confident dish while my pork belly was good if a little intense for lunchtime. Desserts were both delicious. We left it to the waiter to choose our wine - and his pick of an Italian Pinot Nero was spot on. Definitely worth trying if you're in the area - let us know if you try the downstairs room.
