The first restaurant to open in Terance Conran's new Shoreditch complex
This is Terence Conran's first restaurant opening since he sold 49% of his restaurant empire to a management buyoutfrom D&D. It's also his 50th restaurant! So what has he learnt? As part of an extensive Shoreditch set-up involving eateries, a hotel and shops, Boundary's launch had a lot hanging on it. Happily, most critics felt it demonstrated both a return to form and a cunning reading of today's market from Sir Terence.

"It was terrific value. And once you've had your fill you can while away the afternoon drinking coffee or cocktails on Boundary's open-air rooftop (tartan rugs provided) admiring the views of London and pretending you're in Manhattan." READ REVIEW

"The good news is that the second meal was every bit as excellent as the first. The bad news is that, where this theatrical underground space - two-tone brick pillars, huge showcases of armagnac bottles, arty fabric draped across the ceilings as much for the acoustic as the aesthetic - was heaving in March, in May there were twice as many staff as diners." "The realisation grew that – although standards here are consistently high – you could enjoy many of the dishes on offer here in the sort of Gallic bistros where everything emerges from a kitchen the size of a phone box." READ REVIEW
"This is not a menu for the adventurous. Every single main course, from the choucroute garni through the onglet to the braised trotter and ... was welcome for being so blindingly obvious." READ REVIEW
"Boundary is nostalgically contemporary, a very welcome restaurant at a time when to open any dining room is an act of wilful optimism." READ REVIEW

"It seemed the simpler the dish, the better the execution. Skate was pan-fried in butter then topped with capers, lemon juice and tiny croûtons (a style called grenobloise), and was the best of the main courses we tried." READ REVIEW

I took my boyfriend to Boundary for his 40th birthday not long after it opened, and we jointly adored it.
It is trad - but trad in a wonderful, classic way. The room is lovely, really quite glamorous, with a real sense of occasion without any accompanying 'fancy restaurant' stuffiness.
Service was attentive and sweet, and the food was fantastic. (Standout dish was a sweetmeat starter). It's a classic French menu so meaty-loving folks are well catered for.
Highly recommended.
