Modern British food in Camden
The opening of Market resurrected Camden as a place foodies might actually want to visit; seasonal, well-sourced food executed with panache, coupled with a laid-back atmosphere and keen prices made Market a winner. The kind of place you'd love to have as your friendly, neighbourhood eaterie.

"If this sticks to its opening standards, and I see no reason why it shouldn’t, it will be peerless – or certainly in its own postcode." READ REVIEW

"Like the Giaconda, it restores one's faith. It's the kind of place whose simple virtues deserve to be recognised. Frankly, I think someone should give it an award." READ REVIEW
"The only word my companion could find to describe her confit duck leg with potato cake and red cabbage (£12.50) was “unremarkable”. My organic Shetland salmon (£11.50) was lovely in itself, but didn’t go with undercooked curried lentils or the grey moat of watery spinach." READ REVIEW
"In the main course, that good friend of the new-deal British restaurant, Gloucester Old Spot pig, featured as a chop served with lentils and apple sauce and was much appreciated. Chicken and ham pie with greens was also exclaimed over." READ REVIEW

"For my main course I wanted to have the Chicken & Ham Pie. The Christmas party, damn them, had ordered the last ones. A great shame as, when I saw them being brought out they looked like things which would have given Desperate Dan reason to pause." READ REVIEW
"The execution of the dishes was far from perfect, and a little amateurish in places - a child could have made the apple and blackberry crumble, for example - but we liked Market enough to want to return." READ REVIEW

"Two dishes are showstoppers: a starter of slow, slow cooked pig's cheeks, the extraordinarily tender meat melting into a savoury sludge of morcilla (Spanish black pudding) and peas; if this had been served as a main with a dod of that Taleggio mash, I might have whimpered with pleasure."
