Marcus Wareing comes to Knightsbridge
Wareing's acrimonious move from Ramsay Holding's Petrus to the Berkeley was covered in every detail, but now the dust has settled, Wareing seems delighted to be his own man in his own space. Reports are uniformly excellent.

Jay Rayner
London Magazine Reviewed on April 24, 2012 "...there is exceptionalism here which, at this price, is not always the case. Marcus Wareing still means business. And it shows." READ REVIEW Estimated score

Telegraph Reviewed on November 27, 2009 "This is a fine, fine restaurant. And unusually, the critics agree. Will readers?" READ REVIEW

Zoe Williams
Telegraph Reviewed on August 28, 2009 "Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley has done something exactly right with the classic formula of famous-chef-in-a-posh-hotel." READ REVIEW

Independent Reviewed on June 13, 2009 "(Wareing's) style of cooking isn't particularly directional; there are no games or jokes. But neither is there a huge amount of personality in his food; we were enjoying the meal, but it wasn't quite hitting the expected heights." READ REVIEW

Mark Bolland
ES Magazine Reviewed on November 10, 2008 "This is a very grown-up place; somewhere to come if you want an unforgettable meal. Yes, it's complex, but the results provoke a very simple response: pure pleasure." READ REVIEW Estimated score

Matthew Norman
Guardian Reviewed by November 01, 2008 "All in all, then, this was a fine meal with moments of the sublime, but without quite fulfilling admittedly stellar expectations. By and large, the cooking seemed less spellbinding than I remember it when Wareing was first banged up at HMP Berkeley several years ago." READ REVIEW

Sunday Times Reviewed on October 26, 2008 "There’s no denying that when this all leaves the kitchen, it’s clever, accomplished, exemplary cooking, but by the time it gets to the table, it’s an effortful, unrewarding plate of pelmanism." READ REVIEW

Giles Coren
Times Reviewed on October 04, 2008 "We had a stunning meal. Cuisine as haute as you can get in London." READ REVIEW

David Sexton
Evening Standard Reviewed on September 24, 2008 "It was like a last meal that you would plan never to be digesting, rather than food to set you up for the rest of the night or the next day. Or, to put it another way, as a diner here you become part of the drive towards a third Michelin star with all that implies — and that’s simply not the way to eat well, as I understand it."
