Aurelia

Mayfair restaurant from the people behind La Petitie Maison

Aurelia has been launched by the family behind Zuma, Roka and La Petite Maison on the site of the former Mulligan's of Mayfair. The restaurant's head chef is Rosie Yeats-Greenslade, who's worked at Roka for four years while Nic Watt - Roka's executive chef is overseeing the kitchen. Food-wise, the menu has a distinct Mediterranean influence with lots of sharing platters and small plates.

"They know what they're doing at Aurelia, but my hunch is that the location is so costly that they've been forced down the route of safety-first." READ REVIEW

"Just how far we'd come from the meaty badlands was highlighted when our salt marsh leg of lamb (£21) arrived pre-carved into a fan of thin, pink-centred slices – we're ladies, we can't cut our own meat! – and drizzled with salmoriglio, this season's gremolata." READ REVIEW

"...we felt a little disappointed with Aurelia, which is takes the far more conservative and risk-averse approach of far too many Mayfair restaurants; it's more in the mould of its sister restaurant, La Petit Maison." READ REVIEW

The cooking was good. Unfortunately the quality of the food was let down by exceptionaly bad service. They were slow, clumsy and intrusive. Added to which, there is a sharing concept, which seems to be for the benefit of the kitchen rather than the customer, allowing them to deliver food in any order it likes; in our case starter and main simultaneously.

Yawn

Nothing special in terms of food, atmosphere or crowd. If you like sitting in an over lit basement then it's perfect for you.
