The Lockhart

This is the brainchild of two Texan couples and features American chef Brad McDonald in the kitchen, cooking up food based on southern US cooking.

"An American restaurant in London ought to greet you like a long-lost relative and wrap its arms around you until you can barely breathe. But then again, the widely spaced tables here were full of genteel local folk d’un certain âge, as somewhere so close to Mayfair is bound to be, and they mightn’t have felt comfortable with that." "It's a cuisine of extremes and vulgar delights, rendered here, though faithfully, in its chicest form. It's too narrow to take down London's restaurant mighty: you'd have to be in the mood for it. But it might destroy the whole of America's tourist traffic." READ REVIEW

"There are a lot of sharp flavours going on, the collard greens (what we call spring greens) cooked in pork stock with cider vinegar being a case in point. A glossy loaf of corn bread, baked to order and served straight from the oven in its tray, is so good in its buttery-sweet badness that it could start its own overfed cult." READ REVIEW

"His cooking is thrilling: there's a gumbo made from smoked mallard that makes full, palate-flooding use of the wild duck's moody flavours. The rice is Carolina Gold, an unusual new-crop grain with a clean, delicate flavour that acts as a sponge for the meaty roux." READ REVIEW

"...the Lockhart is, confidently, brilliantly, its own animal, a fusion of London and New Orleans, and a perfectly charming place to spend an evening. I thoroughly recommend it - just don't bring a vegetarian." READ REVIEW

"With all the dining action happening way out east, The Lockhart offers a great compromise for oldies and Dalston refuseniks, who crave gastronomic adventure and Brooklyn-style grunginess, but don't want to go anywhere remotely grungy to find it." READ REVIEW
