Our latest bi-weekly round-up of the latest London restaurant reviews from the top UK critics as they are added to our reviews section. This week it's mainly about Dinner by Heston which has been getting rave reviews from all quarters. But there's still time for the first reviews of the Opera Tavern (very positive) and The Henry Root (very mixed).

Alex James - The Sun

Choice quote: "His food was the best I've ever had. It made the second-best restaurant I've been to seem old-fashioned."

Estimated score

Choice quote: "This is a worthwhile addition to London, over which The Fat Duck’s chef has wafted an admirable sprinkling of inspiration. And it’s reasonably enough priced... by the standards of Knightsbridge hotels."

Fay Maschler - Evening Standard
8

Choice quote: "What tipped the meal into four-star territory were the desserts. Pastry chef James "Jockey" Petrie is a brilliant, apparently rather scary practitioner."

Mark DiFranca - View London
10

Choice quote: "There's no doubt that Dinner is going to be a runaway hit. It has everything it needs to be a success, not least thanks to its amazing culinary creations."

Giles Coren - Times

Estimated score

Choice quote: "Only once in my life, the first time that I went to El Bulli, the now extinct former “Best Restaurant in the World”, have I had an experience comparable."

Matthew Fort - Guardian
9

Choice quote: "From time to time I had to remind myself that these were British dishes. Dinner reclaims and reinvents our own cooking heritage, reinvigorating the tired and ordinary orthodoxies of traditional British cooking."

Koya - overall score 8/10 (no change)
Koya

John Lanchester - Guardian
8
Estimated score

Choice quote: "The hot dish was a beef atsu-atsu. I think the meat was brisket; slow-cooked, it was falling into shreds, and came with a broth of beautifully judged weight, meaty and enveloping without being too rich. The balance of these components and the great noodles was unimprovably good."

The Opera Tavern

Guy Dimond - Time Out
8

Choice quote: "...this place is already the worst-kept secret in Covent Garden, which could turn your quest for a table into a drama. Book well ahead."

Hermano Primero - Dos Hermanos

Choice quote: "The mini Iberico Pork and Foie Gras Burger was a winner too. The patty came medium rare and was topped with delicate little onion rings and was a rich, meaty mouthful. Nom Nom as the kids say."

Les Deux Salons

AA Gill - Sunday Times

Choice quote: "...Les Deux Salons is still a good restaurant; I’ll happily go back. But it needs to take the kitchen in hand: it’s slipping away."

The Henry Root - overall score 7/10 (new entry)
Henry Root

Giles Coren - Times
5.5

Choice quote: "These standards would not be accepted in Shoreditch, Farringdon or Hackney, where this sort of laid-back, New British meets European bistro-cum-tapas style has found its natural home, but in Chelsea nobody really cares about the cooking."

Matthew Norman - Telegraph
9

Choice quote: "The big plates were all winners, too. A surprisingly meaty, tarragon-infused stew of halibut, crab and haricot beans looked gorgeous in its pot, and tasted as good as it looked."

Anon - City AM

Choice quote: "If there’s a reputation on show, it’s that of the restaurant itself rather than the restaurateur – a legacy celebrated and revitalised by the design, the service and by Gillies’ nuanced take on Brit revival food."

North Road - overall score 7/10 (no change)
North Road

Zoe Williams - Telegraph
4

Choice quote: "The fish was competently cooked, very fresh and meaty, spruced up by wild watercress and complemented well by some salty, fleshy clams. There was nothing not to like, though likewise nothing to go totally wild over, unless you really, really like cress."

Casa Malveo

Marina O'Loughlin - Metro

Choice quote: "The quality is a notch above some of our other Argentine-style steak joints and it looks good: small and intimate with quirky furnishings and evocative photographs."

Choice quote: "When they did (arrive), the star was the large chunk of Icelandic cod, which was cooked with a sensitivity that was beyond reproach. It did indeed quiver under the fork."

Marina O'Loughlin - Metro

Choice quote: "So, is this the juncture at which the food arrives and I’m compelled to admit that it’s truly wonderful, worth all the staff ineptitude and rudeness? Er, no. It’s not diabolical but neither is it good."
