The White Onion takes over from The Lawn Bistro in Wimbledon

White Onion

Just in time for the tennis, Eric Guignard, owner of the popular French Table in Surbiton, has opened a new restaurant in Wimbledon Village’s thriving dining strip.

Occupying a site previously home to the Lawn Bistro, The White Onion will seat 70 in two rooms, including one with a greenhouse ceiling, which sounds like an appealing summer dining prospect. Guignard will oversee the menu with head chef Frédéric Duval, who worked with him at The French Table for eight years.

Dishes will be French/Mediterranean in influence, and you can expect highlights such as diver-caught scallops with pork belly, cauliflower puree and green apple gel and Herwick lamb with almond and roquette crust. As for desserts, expect them to be good – Guignard is a passionate baker and owns The French Tarte patisseries in Surbiton and Teddington.

Two- or three-course set menus range from £16.50 to £25, and drinks-wise, there’ll be a wine list of 150 bins, with bottles from £19 and glasses from £4.

The White Onion is now open at 67 High Street, London SW19 5EE. Open for dinner Tuesday to Saturday and for lunch Friday to Sunday. During the Wimbledon tennis championships (29 June to 12 July 2015), the restaurant will be open daily for lunch and dinner, Monday to Saturday. Visit  or follow them on Twitter @thewhiteonionSW
