Second annual Sausage Roll Off at the Red Lion in Barnes

sausagerolloffWe've had the Scotch Egg Challenge, now another London pub is following that with their own food competition - the Sausage Roll Off. Held at the Red Lion in Barnes, the event is in its second year and is proving hugely popular. Last year saw a range of inventive entries featuring ingredients as diverse as truffles, lobster and even mackerel. The winner was The Masons Arms in Battersea with their wild boar roll.

Chefs who've already thrown their hats into the ring for this year's competition include MasterChef winner Tim Anderson who's doing a ramen roll and Opera Tavern's Ben Mulock who is working on an Iberico Pork roll. Other confirmed London entries include The Bull in Highgate who are doing a classic British sausage roll featuring beer brewed at their pub, the Coach and Horses in Barnes who are doing haggis, sage and onion, Claude Bosi's The Malt House in Fulham and the newly opened Running Horse in Mayfair.

The panel of judges are MasterChef judge and writer Charles Campion, Celebrity MasterChef winner Lisa Faulkner, National Chef of the year Hayden Groves and food blogger Danny Kingston better known as Food Urchin. Beer and food writer Melissa Cole will compere.

If you're interested in going down to watch the judging (and sample some of the entries) this year's Sausage Roll off takes place on Tuesday 28 January from 7.00pm. There's no need to buy tickets - just turn up on the night.
