Pear Tree Cafe to open overlooking the Boating Lake in Battersea Park

Anyone taking a stroll round Battersea Park this Autumn will soon have what looks to be an exciting cafe to try. Pear Tree Café, which will overlook the park's Boating Lake, is a new venture by Annabel Partridge and Will Burrett, former Sous Chefs at Petersham Nurseries and Spring Restaurant respectively.

Mainly a daytime cafe it'll be serving breakfast and a seasonal all-day lunch menu until dusk on weekdays, brunch at weekends but with regular pop-up supper clubs on winter evenings. There'll be room for 100 diners inside, and 350 diners outside.

Weekday breakfasts sound lovely featuring six grain porridge with hazelnuts, Jersey butter, heather honey and apple or maybe smashed avocado with wood sorrel, pickled cucumbers, feta, chilli, spring onion and za’atar.

Lunch dishes (along with sarnies and a children's menu) might be:

  • Grilled onglet steak with borlotti beans, chard and salsa verde
  • Charred Squid with purple sprouting broccoli, preserved lemons, almonds and chilli oil
  • Chickpea pancake with grilled aubergine, mint and labneh.

As you'd expect, weekend brunch will be a key feature and the menu sounds sufficiently different to the norm with buttermilk pancakes with roasted figs, blueberries, borage honey and Jersey butter or baked eggs with chorizo, preserved lemon yoghurt, crispy kale, spices and sourdough.

There'll also be a short, regularly changing wine list along with English beers and classic cocktails. We might have to drop in just for their bar snacks which include crab and nduja brioche rolls; Gruyere, ham and truffle croquettes and Buttermilk fried chicken with sricacha and herbs.

Pear Tree Café opens Monday 3rd October 2016 beside the Boating Lake on the East side of Battersea Park, London, SW11 4NJ Opening hours will be every day 8am – dusk. Breakfast: 8am – 11:30am, Monday-Friday; Weekday Menu: 12pm – Dusk, Monday-Friday and brunch: 8:30am – 4pm, Saturday-Sunday
