Mommi to bring Peruvian/Japanese cuisine to Clapham High Street

mommi int

Nikkei cuisine - that fusion of Japanese and Peruvian food - is about to hit South London with the news that MOMMI is opening this June. The 85-seater restaurant is from the team behind Camden's KOKO, who already run Bison & Bird in Clapham. They're going to be putting on a mixture of raw and robata grill dishes.

The group's Executive Chef Paul Sowden has put together a menu featuring ceviche, chirashi sushi and a range of hot dishes from the grill including:

  • Sea Bass with Sweet Potato, Olive Oil, Choclo, Burnt Yuzu Dressing and Red Amaranth
  • Pork Belly with Sweet Potato & Salsa Criolla Sanguche
  • Shrimp & Mushroom “Salad” with Spicy Lemon Dressing and Japanese Purple Potato Salad.

There'll also be brunch on at the weekends. And - good news for anyone with a dietary restriction - most of the menu will be gluten and dairy-free.

As for drinks, expect a predominantly South American wine list and a lot of Japanese craft beers. New to London will be the restaurant's in-house sugar cane juicer. There's even a loose celebrity connection as photographer Ben Watts, brother of actress Naomi Watts, will exhibit his work for the first time in the UK at the restaurant. Playlists will be curated by co-founder of music festival Lovebox, Ross Clarke.

MOMMI will open 1 July 2015 at 44 Clapham High Street London SW4 7UR. Opening hours will be Mon-Wed 5pm until 11pm; Thurs-Fri 12pm until late on Thursday and Fridays; Sat-Sun 10am until late. Keep up with their news on Twitter @wearemommi
