Louie Louie brings cakes by day and music by night to the Walworth Road

Louie Louie

The pre-Christmas period was awash with new restaurant openings, so you'll forgive us if we missed a few out. A Hot Dinners reader brought our attention to Louie Louie which opened on the Walworth Road a week before Christmas. Billed a cafe by day and bar and restaurant by night, the cafe is run by the folk behind popular neighbourhood spot Fowlds Cafe.

During the day it's a cafe serving up cake from Stromabakes - including plenty of gluten free, dairy free and vegan options. There's also a top weekend brunch. But in the evenings on Wednesday to Saturday the place transforms into a bar and restaurant. Running the evening kitchen is Oden Oren - a Tel Aviv born chef who you may have caught at his pop-up last summer at Oval Space. He'll be serving up Jerusalem-style dishes with lots cooked over charcoal. So you might have chargrilled octopus with greek yoghurt and fennel or chicken hearts with pimento and cumin.

To go with the food there'll also be live acoustic music and DJs most evenings.

Louie Louie is now open at 347 Walworth Road, London SE17 2AL. Book on 07812 184730 and keep up with their news on Twitter @Louielouie_Ldn
