frannysAnother day, another pop-up. But we quite like the 'let's do the show right here'-style approach of the team behind Franny's in Soho. Almost overnight (well a week actually), a bunch of do-fooders have taken over the old Bertorelli's site on the corner of Frith Street and Bateman Street.

Their Twitter page promises 'freshly homemade pizza, pasta and grills' as well as some killer martinis. They haven't a bean for a PR budget or website, so they're throwing themselves on the mercy of London's foodie scene, hoping we'll all spread the word around. And who are we to deny them the oxygen of publicity?

Franny's opens for brunch on Friday 5th November at 11am and promises to be around for at least eight weeks. If you try it out, tell us about it here.

That Franny's 'don't have a bean' for PR is disingenuous and, frankly, untrue. It is owned by millionaire Luke Johnson and Russell Joffee, it is staffed by managers from Giraffe and, indeed, will open as Giraffe next year. Just what Soho needs, of course: another chain restaurant! What a shame.

Visited Franny's on Friday night. Unaware that it was a brand new restaurant (or a pop-up at that), we stumbled in to get out of the rain and were pleasantly surprised. Arriving early-ish for a Friday (around 6ish) we were quickly seated by the friendly maitre-d. Waiting for a couple of friends to join us for dinner we hopped into the drinks menu. Its simple but fun. Grabbed a few half-price mojitos (from 4pm til 7pm).

Food menu is also simple but the meals are fairly well put-together and presented well. A few of us had burgers, another two had pizzas and one had the seafood pasta dish. The burgers were tasty, a little oily and could have done with some seasoning. They come served on a wooden board without sides. The sides are only a few pound each -the salads are value but the serving size of fries is stingy. Pizza crust and sauce quite good, but again, very oily.

Staff were friendly with a few first-night nerves but fairly competent. Definitely worth a visit while its still here tho.
