DIY dessert calzones and BYOB at Pizza Pilgrims Shoreditch

pilgrimsndjuja

27/2/17 - updated with launch details.

What: Pizza Pilgrims Shoreditch

In a nutshell: BYOB + pizza

Summing it all up: Pizza Pilgrims are opening another branch, this time in East London. Diners will also be able to bring chocolate bars to be turned into dessert calzones, and the local offy will have a fridge of Italian wine so you can BYOB in style.

The low-down

East London fans of pizza are in for a treat - Pizza Pilgrims will be bringing their legendary thin crust pizzas to Shoreditch when they open a new branch in March.

It’ll be their first permanent site in Shoreditch, and their first one to be BYOB, so guests can drink whatever they like with their pizza, “from Special Brew to Barolo,” Pizza Pilgrims suggests. They’ll be linking up with the nearby offy who’ll have a fridge full of Italian wines and craft beers selected especially for diners, with a corkage fee of £2.50 (and no corkage fee at all for the first month).

There’ll also be a few new menu additions like Crust Dippers, Prosciutto Pops and tiramisu served in take-away cardboard espresso cups, for those who want to wander Shoreditch and eat creamy Italian desserts at the same time.

If you need a bigger sugar hit than that, the other exciting news is that the Shoreditch branch will also be experimenting with dessert pizzas, specifically calzones, and you’ll get to build-your-own. Just bring in your favourite bar of choc, anything from a Snickers to a 70% salted dark caramel concoction, and Pizza Pilgrims will wrap it in dough and bake it for you. It sounds simple, fun and more than a bit good, which begs the question, why haven’t we tried this before?

If you fancy getting even more creative, guests will also be invited to have a go at ‘pizza art’, which will eventually adorn the walls of the Shoreditch branch, and the best pizza-inspired takes on classical paintings will be rewarded with free pizza…

All of the above will be available alongside their classic range of Neapolitan-style pizzas complete with stringy, melted mozzarella, range of toppings and all blasted in their 460C oven to crispy pizza perfection.

Keep your eyes peeled for later on in the year, when Pizza Pilgrims will be opening up branches in Waterloo and West India Quay.
