BBQ Club & Bar is Jimmy Garcia’s new South Bank project

BBQ Club & Bar is Jimmy Garcia’s new South Bank project

Sunshine and warmer weather means BBQ is increasingly back on the menu - particularly at Southbank’s new BBQ Club & Bar.

It’s a Thamesside pop-up and supper club, set up by Jimmy Garcia (Jimmy’s Underground Pop-Up, DVine Cellars, Cornercopia) and will be spread across two floors. The walk up BBQ bar will remain below, while those who’re joining for the rooftop supper club will head upstairs.

Foodwise, forget cheeseburgers and hot dogs. Both the Club and the Bar will be grilling up high-quality ingredients like foraged sorrel, hand-dived Dorset scallops and chorizo imported from Asturias in Spain for its changing menu.

These will go into supper club dishes like The Queenie Flower, which consists of scallops with coal-baked cauliflower in hazelnut crumb and pickled red onion petals. Or, go for the Baa Baa Broccoli - lamb cutlet with a side of salsa verde, tenderstem broccoli and Sicilian anchovies. For dessert, expect hands-on dishes like s’mores, which diners will get to toast themselves. And on the drinks front, there’ll be an honesty bar with gin cocktails, 10 pint kegs of beer and different types of wine divided into ‘good’ and ‘great’.

Meanwhile, for walk-up diners, the BBQ bar downstairs will serving food like charred monkfish with tarragon mayo and dill pickled cucumber, or steak and chips with chimichurri sauce, and all priced at £10 or under. Don’t forget to grab a G+T or cider to enjoy while overlooking the water, ideally on a balmy evening.

When: 20 May 2017 until the end of summer

Where: Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, London, SE1 8XX
