Bar 44 are crowned winners of the Battle of the Bravas 2017

Bar 44The winner from Bar 44 - that's triple cooked patatas bravas with charcoal smoked tomato bravas sauce and sherry alioli - a winner for crispiness and the overall winner too.

Last night we ate a LOT of potatoes, but it was all in the pursuit of discovering who could make the best Patatas Bravas dish, so it was well worth the carbs. Sat down with Nieves Barragán, recently Barrafina and getting her own eagerly awaited restaurant ready, and Felicity Cloake, writer of the Guardian's much-loved "perfect" column we had some pretty damned fine patatas.

Hosted by Camino Monument, the winners were divided into four categories - Crispiness, innovation, sauce, overall winner and the people's award, voted by the rest of the room. The overall winners were Bar 44, who made the trip down from Cardiff for the event, so that was well worth the trip! As for the rest of the winners - here's who came top:

encantFrom Encant, Maris Piper patatas bravas with mojo picon and made-to-order alioli. Well-deserved winner of best sauce..
