American chefs to open Lowcountry on Fulham High Street

lowcountryLooks like the trend for American country cooking is set to continue in London with the opening of Lowcountry in Fulham next month.

Chefs Michael Kirk and Jennifer Ryan - both US natives - will be cooking up "simple, seasonal American low country cuisine which encompasses cuisine from the southern wilds of the US from the Carolinas to the Gulf Coast".

On the menu you can expect crawfish, steamed cracked crabs; and seafood gumbo, served with andouille sausage. There's also roast pork picnic leg, pulled and served with Carolina style BBQ sauce and garlic bread as well as house-made Andouille sausages, served with chunky red mash and collard greens.

Lowcountry will have 280 covers, a raw bar with crabs and oysters and a large outdoor seating area complete with its own smokehouse and seating for over 100.

Kirk has been in London for 15 year, most recently working for Orient Express Hotels, the Savoy Hotel Group and Marriott Hotels. He's cooked in Maine, Vermont  New York, Georgia and  New Orleans. Ryan is from Chicago and told Hot Dinners "I am passionate about American food, and very excited about this opportunity in London. I just left a head chef position at a Lowcountry cuisine fine dining establishment in St. Louis and am looking forward to bringing some new tastes to South West London."

Lowcountry Bar and Eating House will open at 4 Fulham High Street, SW6 3LQ on 1 May 2012.
