Carmel is expanding from Queen's Park to Oxford Circus

12/3/24 - updated with the opening date

The team behind Carmel, Berber & Q and Shawarma Bar are heading into the West End to open a second Carmel restaurant just off Oxford Circus. They've taken over the site on Market Place that was previously La Rampa (and before that a string of other restaurants, so here's hoping this venture breaks the curse).

As with their Queen's Park restaurant, Carmel's West End iteration will serve up a menu of small plates and sharing dishes inspired by the Eastern Mediterranean.

Dishes on the launch menu should include monkfish crudo with sheep’s yoghurt and tomatoes and hanger steak Çis with bone marrow, burnt onion and a sour cherry molasses reduction. One thing that isn't being served up at the original Carmel but will be here in Fitzrovia are a selection of fresh pasta dishes including ricotta agnolotti with confit tomato and sweet potato gnocchi with burnt aubergine, Greek yoghurt and sage brown butter.

Weekend brunch should be a thing with all manner of eggy dishes including green eggs & amba (we see what they did there), eggs levantine with za’atar hollandaise and steak and egg sandwich with green tahini and pickled red onion.

It's a big old space but it sounds as though they've completely changed it around with an open kitchen as you come in and a 'green room' semi private dining space with its own bar at the back.
