Fat Baby is Night Tales new permanent restaurant in Hackney

fatbaby

Over in Hackney Night Tales are getting ready to launch their first permanent restaurant. Fat Baby opened earlier in the summer with a street food menu. Since then they've installed a roof (complete with Northern Lights inspired illumination) and now have a full menu planned for the 42 seat spot.

In charge of things is Head Chef Greg Round (ex Umu, Bonhams and Quality Chop House). He'll be focusing his menu on the five main cooking techniques found in Japanese cuisine; raw, steam, simmer, grill and fry.

Expect to find snacks like smoked eel temaki sushi, gyoza pot sticker dumpling or braised ox cheek korokke, and then from the grill there'll be charcoal grilled norfolk quail with sweet soy, shichimi pepper and lemon and beef tataki with seared bavette and shiitake mushroom with kizami wasabi. Vegetarians are well served too - the fried tofu with korean miso glaze and golden sesame sounds rather lovely.

And because winter is coming they're also taking steps to make the space a lot cosier - think flickering candlelight dotted everywhere with roaring fires and heaters.
